Job Description
Job title: Paralegal (6+ months) Role Summary: Provide legal support to U.S. Department of Justice – Trustee Program, assisting attorneys with case research, documentation, filing, and court proceedings, while maintaining accurate records and communication across stakeholders. Expactations: - Availability for full‑time, contract position. - Completion of a federal background investigation; active federal clearance preferred. - Willingness to relocate to Houston, TX and work on‑site. Key Responsibilities: - Conduct case file analysis, identify discrepancies, and recommend additional information or discovery. - Review and synthesize documents, extract data, and draft summaries of decisions, opinions, pleadings, and memoranda. - Prepare for hearings, trials, and pre‑trial conferences – organize exhibits, witnesses, and evidence. - Attend court appearances, observe proceedings, and produce written reports of observations. - Manage electronic and paper mail, calendar entries, and program databases (e.g., ACMS, SARS). - Communicate professionally with attorneys, court personnel, clients, and staff in written and oral formats. - Interview witnesses and compile summary reports. - Proofread and edit legal documents for clarity, grammar, and compliance with legal standards. Required Skills: - 2+ years of paralegal experience (or 4+ years with high school/certificate). - Proficiency in case management software and data management. - Strong research, legal precedent review, and drafting capabilities. - Ability to perform pre‑trial preparation, witness interviewing, and limited investigations. - Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in any field with 2+ years paralegal experience **or** high school diploma/certificate with 4+ years experience. - Completion of a federal background check (active federal clearance preferred).
