**Job title**
Technician, Breeding
**Role Summary**
Support the breeding program by executing field, greenhouse, and laboratory activities under the direction of the Scientist, Breeding. Responsibilities include plant propagation, trial execution, data collection, laboratory testing, and compliance with SOPs and regulatory standards.
**Expectations**
- Perform daily breeding and production tasks, adapting to evolving program priorities.
- Maintain strict adherence to SOPs, Health Canada Cannabis Act, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Record, analyze, and report data accurately.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and willingness to perform repetitive work.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Conduct experimental procedures in plant breeding and production trials, including propagation, post‑harvest, and sensory work.
2. Assist with biological, microbiological, and biochemical laboratory analyses.
3. Carry out technical support for breeding trials and related production experiments.
4. Collect phenotypic and breeding data following prescribed protocols; input and manage data.
5. Analyze data and prepare reports for the Scientist, Breeding.
6. Follow SOPs, safety policies, and regulatory requirements; wear PPE and handle hazardous materials safely.
7. Maintain hygiene, proper waste disposal, and participate in safety training.
8. Perform additional duties as assigned.
**Required Skills**
- In‑depth knowledge of cannabis cultivation, breeding methods, and plant biology.
- Proficiency in propagation techniques (cloning, tissue culture, etc.).
- Familiarity with greenhouse environmental control and IPM for disease/pest management.
- Strong data collection, record‑keeping, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to document procedures and results.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer usage.
- Ability to multitask, solve problems, and work collaboratively in a team.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor of Science in Biology, Genetics, Horticulture, Agriculture, or related discipline (preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in plant breeding or cultivation.
- Basic understanding of plant breeding principles and the plant life cycle.
- No specific certifications required; knowledge of cannabis regulatory compliance is essential.
