Job Description
Job Title: Contract Mechanical Engineer Role Summary: A 2‑year contract position for a seasoned mechanical engineer with over 10 years of experience in valve, hydraulic, or naval marine design. The role involves designing and validating high‑value, low‑volume components, maintaining accurate engineering records, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders. Expectations: - Deliver precise, compliant designs that meet customer specifications. - Maintain design traceability, documentation, and calculations. - Support production and continuous improvement initiatives. - Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and cross‑functional teams. - Lead small teams and represent the company in meetings when required. Key Responsibilities: - Interpret customer specifications and develop engineering solutions. - Apply appropriate industry standards, design codes (Def Stans, BS, ISO, PD, etc.) and pressure vessel regulations. - Create and maintain 2D/3D drawings using Solidworks and Draftsight. - Perform mechanical analysis and produce design calculations (Mathcad preferred). - Introduce and run validation programs for prototypes, including testing and qualification. - Compile reports, project plans, and technical documentation to demonstrate compliant engineering practice. - Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal technicians to assess test results and provide technical support. - Represent the business at customer/supplier meetings when necessary. - Lead small teams to achieve project deliverables within agreed timelines. - Assist with production‑based issues and update the production database from launch to production. - Execute additional duties related to the position as required. Required Skills: - Extensive experience in valve or hydraulic system design for oil & gas or naval marine sectors. - Proficiency in Solidworks and Draftsight; ability to create and maintain 2D/3D models. - Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and standards. - Competence in mechanical analysis and use of Mathcad for design calculations. - Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, and team‑leadership skills. - Ability to produce detailed technical documentation and reports. Required Education & Certifications: - BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. - Eligibility for SC Security Clearance. - Familiarity with British and ISO design codes and pressure vessel standards.
