Job title: Data Science and Machine Learning Intern
Role Summary:
Interns in the AI Innovation Center support data science initiatives across cybersecurity, healthcare, aviation, defense, and enterprise transformation. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to apply advanced analytics, machine learning, and optimization techniques to client challenges and to develop prototypes on both on-premises and cloud platforms.
Expectations:
- Full‑time student status in an accredited program (Data Science, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, or related field).
- Enrollment continuation for the semester following the internship.
- Sustained academic excellence and satisfactory progression.
- Basic Python programming proficiency; familiarity with data science/language libraries preferred.
- Ability to adhere to reproducibility, trustworthiness, and rigorous lifecycle practices for ML projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply techniques including supervised, unsupervised, generative AI, NLP, computer vision, reinforcement learning, statistical modeling, optimization, and visualization to solve customer problems.
- Ensure data science rigor throughout the machine learning lifecycle: data preprocessing, model training, validation, deployment, and evaluation.
- Design, develop, and test functional prototypes on VMWare/Linux-based on‑premises environments and on AWS or Azure cloud services.
- Demonstrate solutions to stakeholders, translating technical results into actionable insights.
- Employ state‑of‑the‑art methodologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance mission capability.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with experts in data engineering, security, and domain operations.
Required Skills:
- Python programming (NumPy, pandas, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
- Strong analytical and statistical foundations (linear models, probability, hypothesis testing).
- Familiarity with ML workflow tools (Jupyter, Git, CI/CD pipelines).
- Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and virtualization (VMware).
- Effective communication of complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Current full‑time student in an accredited program of Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or comparable discipline.
- No specific certifications required, but knowledge of data science certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure Data Scientist Associate, AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty) is a plus.
- U.S. citizenship (required for potential security clearance, though none is mandatory at application).
