Summer Intern – Data & AI
**Role Summary**
A 10‑week paid internship focused on applying data science and AI techniques to solve real business problems within a retail organization. You will collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and product leads to collect, clean, analyze data, build dashboards, prototype machine‑learning models, and explore generative‑AI use cases.
**Expectations**
- Complete a tangible project that delivers actionable insights or prototype solutions.
- Gain hands‑on experience with modern data platforms, cloud services, and MLOps workflows.
- Present findings to team members and leadership.
- Work in a cross‑functional environment, contributing to brainstorming and data‑quality initiatives.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Collect, clean, and transform structured and unstructured data.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns and opportunities.
- Design and build dashboards and visualizations (Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
- Develop and validate predictive models (regression, classification, clustering).
- Evaluate model performance using statistical and ML metrics.
- Prototype solutions using Python, SQL, PySpark, and cloud ML services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Explore Generative AI scenarios, including prompt engineering and LLM prototypes.
- Build and maintain data pipelines with Python, PySpark, or SQL.
- Work with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
- Support data quality programs and data‑governance activities.
- Create documentation: data dictionaries, model explanations, analytic artifacts.
- Present results and recommendations to stakeholders.
**Required Skills**
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and at least one data‑visualization tool (Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
- Working knowledge of R and machine‑learning concepts.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data‑engineering tools (PySpark, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to produce clear documentation and presentations.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Current student or recent graduate enrolled in an accredited program (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Enrollment must be active as of June 2026.
- No specific certifications required; familiarity with cloud services and ML frameworks is preferred.
