Job Description
Job Title: Intern – Data Science, Electric Distribution Role Summary: Assist the Electric Distribution team by developing, deploying, and maintaining data‑science solutions that improve grid reliability and asset management. Perform data discovery, modeling, and visualization using Python, SQL, and Power BI, translating analytical insights into actionable business results. Collaborate cross‑functionally with domain experts to design advanced analytics projects, prototype solutions, and support the creation of dashboards that monitor vulnerability, outage trends, and system performance. Expactations: - Complete internship from May to August 2026. - Deliver prototypes, models, and dashboards on schedule with high accuracy. - Maintain confidentiality of proprietary data and comply with all company policies. - Exhibit professionalism, effective communication, and proactive learning. Key Responsibilities: - Identify key issues for partner teams and prototype data‑science solutions using cloud technology. - Gather requirements, define problem scope, and design analytics workflows with internal stakeholders. - Conduct data discovery, exploratory analysis, and profiling in Python and SQL. - Perform data wrangling to support model development. - Build statistical, mathematical, or computational models in Python for industry challenges. - Create Power BI dashboards and visualizations to communicate model outcomes and descriptive analytics. - Connect EOMS system data to the BHE data lake and develop vulnerability analytics models. - Expand dashboards to include additional analytics and enable yearly model updates for infrastructure changes. - Analyze outage reliability trends and produce dashboards for reliability reporting. Required Skills: - Self‑starter with strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities. - Effective oral and written communication skills. - Interpersonal and customer‑relationship proficiency. - Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple concurrent tasks. - Programming experience in Python (machine learning/statistical modeling). - SQL expertise for database queries and ETL processes. - Power BI proficiency for data visualization and dashboard creation. - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows OS. Required Education & Certifications: - College student, sophomore or higher, currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or above in data analytics, computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or related discipline. - Coursework in data analytics, machine learning, statistics, or computational mathematics preferred.
