Job Title: Senior Applied AI Engineer
Role Summary:
Lead the design, development, and delivery of production AI systems that drive automation and intelligence for both external platform integrations and internal operational workflows in the insurance space. Focus on extracting, verifying, and normalizing data from unstructured sources such as PDFs, images, and emails, and building AI‑powered tools for underwriting, rating, compliance, and operations.
Expectations:
- Ship reliable, high‑accuracy AI and automation features to production.
- Own end‑to‑end workflows with minimal supervision.
- Work within regulated, accuracy‑critical environments (fintech, insurance, lending, health).
- Design robust evaluation sets, fallback strategies, and monitoring to ensure dependable AI outputs.
- Communicate effectively across engineering, product, and operations teams.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and scale‑up of the AI function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build intelligent extraction pipelines for PDFs, images, emails, and other insurance documents.
- Develop automated verification and normalization pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
- Design and implement workflow automation for lender‑connected and partner‑facing systems.
- Create AI‑powered tools supporting underwriting, rating, compliance, and internal operational processes.
- Reduce manual review effort and accelerate decision‑making through internal automation.
- Construct evaluation sets, monitor model performance, and establish quality guardrails for production AI components.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate AI solutions into scalable production systems used across states and partner ecosystems.
Required Skills:
- Proven experience shipping AI or automation systems with a focus on reliability and accuracy.
- Expertise in large language models (LLMs) or related AI technologies applied to production products.
- Hands‑on knowledge of unstructured document processing, extraction, and normalisation pipelines.
- Experience in regulated or accuracy‑critical domains (fintech, lending, insurance, health, compliance).
- Strong ownership mindset, ability to transform complex workflows into scalable automation.
- Design and implementation of evaluation sets, fallback mechanisms, and monitoring setups for AI components.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative across engineering, product, and operations.
- Bonus: prior experience building AI systems for enterprise workflows in a growing company.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).
- No specific certifications required, but knowledge of AI/ML best practices and regulatory compliance standards is preferred.
