**Job title:** Senior Software Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Lead the maintenance, enhancement, and support of critical software applications for DOE nuclear projects. Design and develop moderately complex systems, coordinate configuration management, and provide expert technical assistance while ensuring compliance with DOE security and quality standards.
**Expectations:**
* Deliver reliable software solutions on schedule and within quality thresholds.
* Operate independently with minimal supervision, adapting to shifting priorities.
* Maintain active DOE clearance (Class Q or L) and satisfy security access requirements.
* Travel quarterly to DOE sites for face‑to‑face collaboration.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Test product upgrades and ensure continuous application availability.
* Provide customer support, troubleshoot, debug, and resolve user issues.
* Plan, design, and implement software solutions, including installation and database administration.
* Produce tactical engineering designs, technical specifications, and configuration‑management plans.
* Coordinate projects, manage change control, and document requirements via tools such as Rational DOORS.
* Assist senior technical staff on moderately complex tasks and contribute to program development.
* Utilize software engineering tools (configuration management, change management, scanning, debuggers).
* Maintain documentation, test plans, and compliance records.
**Required Skills:**
* Advanced knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, methodologies, and database infrastructure.
* Programming proficiency in JavaScript, VB, C+, and/or Python.
* Experience with configuration management systems, change control, source‑code scanning, and debugging.
* Strong analytical, design, testing, documentation, and problem‑solving abilities.
* Ability to work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams.
* 15+ years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of 10 years on DOE projects.
* Demonstrated participation in systems‑engineering teams and program development.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
* Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field *or* equivalent experience.
* Minimum of 5 years (Bachelor’s) or 7 years (Associate) of proven performance in related assignments; 11+ years of high‑school diploma experience acceptable.
* Active DOE Class Q (or L) clearance; eFOCI registration and Facility Level Clearance with DOE/NNSA.
* Familiarity with DOE processes, procedures, and Rational DOORS Requirements Management Extensions preferred.
