Job Description

Job Title: Research and Development Specialist – Cell Disruption & Microalgae Pretreatment Role Summary: Drive the optimisation of microalgae cell disruption, pretreatment, and lipid extraction processes to maximise EPA‑rich oil recovery. Lead experimental design, perform laboratory and pilot‑scale trials, analyse data, and report findings to cross‑functional teams. Expectations: - Deliver measurable improvements in lipid yield and process efficiency - Independently manage and complete assigned research projects from conception to presentation - Communicate results clearly to science and engineering stakeholders Key Responsibilities: - Design and optimise bead milling, sonication, enzymatic digestion, and mechanical shear disruption methods - Evaluate disruption efficiency, energy input, scalability, and lipid integrity - Develop and optimise solvent‑based extraction procedures, including solvent selection, parameters, and sequences - Execute mechanical extraction trials and separation techniques to isolate oil fractions - Plan structured experimental programmes, run trials, collect and analyse lipid recovery data - Document outcomes, including failures, with technical reasoning - Keep current with literature, collaborate with engineering teams, and recommend next‑phase studies Required Skills: - Strong experimental design and data interpretation skills - Proficient in laboratory techniques for cell disruption and solvent extraction - Ability to present technical findings to cross‑functional teams - Self‑directed, analytical, and resilient in a laboratory setting Required Education & Certifications: - MSc or equivalent in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
