**Job Title**
Senior Software Engineer
**Role Summary**
Design, develop, and maintain complex software applications that support Department of Energy initiatives. Lead projects, ensure operational readiness, maintain cyber security posture, and mentor junior staff to sustain mission‑critical systems at Savannah River Site.
**Expectations**
- Minimum 15 years total software engineering experience, with at least 10 years on DOE projects.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain DOE “Q” clearance.
- Proven leadership in moderately complex software initiatives.
- Fluency in at least one of JavaScript, VB, C+, or Python.
- Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices, database infrastructure, secure coding, and system administration.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Maintain operational status of assigned applications; perform root‑cause analysis of complex issues.
- Lead moderately complex engineering initiatives and manage the full software development lifecycle (design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, validation).
- Apply functional and system requirements in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
- Mentor and guide less experienced personnel on technical development and documentation practices.
- Evaluate automation opportunities, define cost‑benefit parameters, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure federal compliance and cyber security posture of systems.
- Support installation, upgrades, and planning for database and software infrastructure.
- Participate in validation, configuration management, and systems analysis reviews.
- Travel quarterly to Savannah River Site for collaboration with engineering teams.
**Required Skills**
- Software development lifecycle management (design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation).
- Troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.

**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field *or* equivalent professional experience.
- 15 years of software engineering experience (10 years DOE‑specific).
- Eligibility for DOE “Q” clearance (active clearance preferred).
- Demonstrated ongoing professional development in software engineering principles and practices.
