Job Title: Mainframe Developer/Programmer Analyst
Role Summary:
Develop, maintain, and optimize IBM mainframe applications, focusing on COBOL, CICS, IMS, VSAM, JCL, and related utilities. Participate in all phases of the application lifecycle, from requirement analysis to testing, deployment, and support, ensuring high reliability and performance of mission‑critical systems.
Expectations:
* Act as a subject matter expert on mainframe technologies and IBM utilities.
* Deliver defect‑free, maintainable code within stipulated timelines.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
* Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for production systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, code, and test COBOL programs and CICS transaction modules for batch and online processing.
2. Develop, maintain, and optimize IMS and VSAM data structures, ensuring efficient data access and integrity.
3. Author and maintain JCL scripts for job scheduling and execution, including error handling and logging.
4. Utilize ISPF, File‑Aid, Expeditor, Mark IV, and other IBM utilities to streamline development and testing workflows.
5. Monitor system performance, analyze log files, and implement enhancements to improve throughput and resource utilization.
6. Participate in change management, code reviews, and documentation of system design and user manuals.
7. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in production, providing root‑cause analysis and preventive measures.
8. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of IBM mainframe releases, patches, and best practices.
Required Skills:
* 3+ years of experience with IMS/VSAM data management.
* 3+ years of JCL authoring and job scheduling.
* 3+ years of COBOL development, including mainframe COBOL dialects.
* 2+ years of CICS/Online transaction programming.
* 2+ years of experience with ISPF, File‑Aid, Mark IV, Expeditor, and CICS/BMS utilities.
* Strong understanding of REXX scripting.
* Proficiency in using IBM mainframe utilities and development tools (ISPF, TSO, SDSF, etc.).
* Ability to read and interpret ESA/400 documentation and internal coding standards.
* Excellent problem‑solving, debugging, and documentation skills.
Required Education & Certifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
* IBM Certified Database Administrator – IMS or equivalent certification is preferred but not mandatory.
* Familiarity with industry‑standard coding standards (e.g., COBOL 85, GDS, etc.).
