Job Description
Job Title: Staff Systems Engineer Role Summary: Agile Product Owner for the Ground‑Based Mid‑Course Defense (GMD) Fire Control (GFC) Threat State Algorithms and Analysis team, overseeing sprint backlog items, defining closure criteria, and leading technical analysis, evaluation, and integration of missile defense algorithms. Expectations: Minimum 8 years of relevant experience (6 + years with a Master’s, 4 + years with a PhD), U.S. citizen, active Secret security clearance (TS clearance attainable). Key Responsibilities: - Define and enforce sprint closure criteria for GWS GFC algorithm features. - Lead analysis and validation of algorithm candidates for track processing, track reporting, discrimination, propagation, and 6‑D covariance propagation/prediction. - Integrate algorithm prototypes into system architecture and verify performance. - Conduct root‑cause analysis of complex software systems. - Maintain backlog grooming, sprint planning, and stakeholder communication using Jira/Confluence. - Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on system integration, testing, and deployment. - Prepare technical documentation and present findings to technical and non‑technical audiences. Required Skills: - Data analysis, performance analysis, physics/mathematics‑based algorithm development. - Proficiency in MATLAB and Python; familiarity with Ada. - Deep understanding of missile defense domains: track processing, reporting, discrimination, propagation, covariance propagation/prediction. - Strong problem‑solving, system integration, and root‑cause analysis skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. - Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills. - Experience with Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence).
