**Job title:** COBOL Specialist – AI Trainer
**Role Summary:**
Provide deep expertise in IBM z/OS mainframe development and COBOL to train and evaluate large language models, ensuring they accurately understand and process legacy system content.
**Expectations:**
- Act as the primary domain expert for model training sessions.
- Capture, analyze, and document real‑world mainframe scenarios, failures, and debugging evidence.
- Enhance prompt engineering and evaluation metrics through iterative feedback.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Deliver subject‑matter knowledge in IBM z/OS, CICS, JCL, DB2/IMS, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, Micro Focus COBOL, Endevor/ChangeMan, RACF, Git for z/OS, and REXX.
- Design and conduct model interrogation sessions covering batch/online processing, transaction integrity, error triage (ABENDs, SQLCODEs), performance tuning, and code refactoring.
- Capture reproducible error traces (dump analysis, Abend‑AID, fault analyzer output) and propose solutions.
- Review COBOL code, identify refactoring opportunities, and document patterns and failure modes for model training.
- Collaborate with prompt engineers to refine metrics, improve model reasoning, and update the knowledge base.
- Maintain clear, metacognitive documentation of all findings, suggestions, and model responses.
**Required Skills:**
- Advanced proficiency in COBOL, CICS transaction processing, DB2/IMS data access, JCL, VSAM, TSO/ISPF.
- Experience with Micro Focus COBOL and mainframe modernization pipelines.
- Knowledge of parallel batch strategies, scheduling (CA7/Control‑M), IBM MQ, and API/REST/SOAP integration from COBOL.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and documentation capabilities; ability to capture and explain failure traces.
- Excellent communication skills; able to articulate reasoning, code changes, and model feedback consistently.
- Familiarity with Endevor/ChangeMan, RACF, Git for z/OS, and REXX scripting.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- Professional certifications in COBOL, CICS, DB2, or mainframe technologies (e.g., IBM Certified Advanced COBOL Developer, IBM Certified System Administrator – z/OS) preferred.
