**Job title:** Network Engineering Internship
**Role Summary:**
A hands‑on engineering internship focused on building, securing, and operating ground‑based network infrastructure for satellite communications. The role involves improving high‑bandwidth links to cloud services, managing on‑site hardware, provisioning Linux systems, and hardening overall network security.
**Expectations:**
- Rapid acquisition of networking, Linux, and automation skills.
- Contribute to live systems supporting satellite data delivery.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers on design, documentation, and operational improvements.
- Demonstrate initiative in testing, benchmarking, and implementing secure connectivity solutions.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Benchmark and enhance secure, high‑bandwidth links (VPN, WireGuard, IPSec, SD‑WAN) between antenna sites and cloud platforms.
- Organize and document rack operations: server inventories, RF hardware, cable management, and BOM tracking.
- Develop and maintain OS provisioning workflows using Linux, automation scripts, and configuration management tools.
- Apply security hardening practices: SSH policies, firewalls, audit baselines, and user/permission management on‑prem.
- Support installation workflows, runbooks, logging, and monitoring across all on‑site systems.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improving system reliability and scalability.
**Required Skills:**
- Strong command of Linux fundamentals (system services, networking utilities, permissions, SSH, log analysis).
- Proficient in IP networking: routing, switching, TCP/IP, VLANs, MTU, NAT.
- Knowledge of VPN technologies (WireGuard, IPSec, OpenVPN) and secure connectivity concepts.
- Scripting/programming ability in Python, Bash, or Go.
- Ability to learn and implement distributed system patterns and infrastructure best practices.
**Nice to Have:**
- Experience with rack installation, cable management, or hardware operations.
- Exposure to automation/provisioning technologies (cloud‑init, Ansible, PXE).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or similar).
- Basic interest in satellite communications, RF, or space protocols.
- Experience with asset‑tracking tools or operational workflow design.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, or related field.
- No specific certifications required, though networking credentials (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+) are advantageous.
