Job Description: Job title: Junior Planner Role Summary: Support senior planners in land‑use planning for the County and its municipalities, including review of minor development applications, zoning inquiries, and preparation of planning reports and presentations. Expectations: Provide timely, accurate support to planning staff, ensure compliance with municipal by‑laws and applicable legislation, maintain information systems, and conduct research to inform planning decisions. Key Responsibilities - Review and process minor development applications (committee of adjustment, minor rezoning, minor site plan approvals). - Respond to planning and development inquiries regarding designations, zoning provisions, and compliance. - Assist in preparing reports on variances, severances, minor zoning, and part‑lot control exemptions. - Present findings to committees and councils. - Respond to public inquiries and provide general feedback. - Conduct research and data collection on planning topics. - Develop and maintain information systems for planning. - Travel to local municipal planning offices as required. - Support departmental operations, including coverage during absences. Required Skills - Working knowledge of zoning by‑laws, municipal planning processes, planning principles, and relevant legislation (Planning Act, provincial policy). - Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities. - Proactive initiative and ability to organise work in a fast‑paced environment. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS software. - Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle access. Required Education & Certifications - Post‑secondary diploma in Planning or related discipline (or current enrolment toward diploma). - Minimum 1 year of relevant municipal or private planning experience, or co‑op/internship performing junior planner tasks.
