Job Description

**Job Title** Computer Science Research Engineer – Linux Kernel **Role Summary** Design and implement a Virtual Isolation Context (VIC) for the Linux kernel as part of the ANR PEPR Cloud (DIVA) project. Deliver a prototype, evaluate its flexibility across diverse use‑cases, and produce technical documentation and performance assessments. **Expectations** - Produce a functional VIC implementation integrated with Linux task scheduling. - Conduct comprehensive evaluations of isolation mechanisms. - Communicate findings effectively in written reports and presentations. - Work remotely two days per week while collaborating with a distributed team. **Key Responsibilities** - Analyze Linux thread and process creation code; master `task_struct` internals. - Study existing kernel isolation mechanisms (cgroups, namespaces, seccomp, etc.). - Design the VIC abstraction layer and interface. - Prototype multiple use‑cases leveraging current isolation techniques. - Perform performance, security, and scalability evaluations. - Document design decisions, code, and evaluation results. - Present progress to team members and project stakeholders. **Required Skills** - Advanced development experience in the Linux kernel. - Deep understanding of `task_struct`, scheduling, and kernel locking. - Knowledge of kernel isolation primitives (cgroups, namespaces, containers). - Ability to translate research concepts into working kernel modules. - Strong written and spoken English; capable of delivering technical talks. - Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting to peers and non‑technical audiences. - Self‑motivated, able to work autonomously while contributing within a team. **Required Education & Certifications** - Minimum Master’s degree (Bac+5) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
