Job Description
**Job Title:** Financial Analyst, Credit Underwriter **Role Summary:** Provide underwriting support across Canada for the surety business line. Conduct financial analysis, risk assessment, account set‑up, portfolio reviews and system updates to determine acceptability of new business and pricing. Collaborate with national underwriters and cross‑functional teams to improve processes and ensure accurate, timely information flow. **Expectations:** * Deliver accurate, data‑driven recommendations on new and existing surety exposures. * Manage multiple underwriting tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced, change‑intensive environment. * Communicate findings clearly in written and verbal form to underwriters and broker partners. * Identify and propose system or process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Perform financial statement analysis, capacity & collateral review for new surety opportunities. 2. Set up and update internal system records for new and existing accounts. 3. Prepare commentary on statement analysis, identify information gaps, and request additional data from brokers. 4. Generate trending reports from backlog/work‑in‑progress data; conduct portfolio reviews for outdated information. 5. Create annual write‑ups on updated accounts, file correspondence, and maintain documentation. 6. Evaluate risks and pricing, provide recommendations or approvals within assigned authority. 7. Support national underwriting team with ad‑hoc projects and process improvement initiatives. **Required Skills:** * Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting or Finance. * Minimum 1 year of relevant experience (credit analysis, insurance underwriting or related financial analysis). * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis tools). * Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities; accurate attention to detail. * Excellent time‑management, organizational, and multi‑priority handling skills. * Clear written and verbal communication in English. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a national, remote‑support environment. * Proactive, confident in presenting ideas, questions, and concerns. **Required Education & Certifications:** * Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent in Accounting/Finance. * Certifications such as ACCA, CPA, CFA, or similar are an asset but not mandatory.
