Job Description
Job Title: Teaching Assistant Role Summary: Support classroom instruction and individual learning needs of pupils, foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, and collaborate with teachers to track progress and adapt activities. Expactations: * Demonstrate numeracy and literacy proficiency at least GCSE (A‑C) or equivalent NVQ Level 2. * Maintain a strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and health & safety policies. * Exhibit proactive learning, self‑assessment, and continuous professional development. * Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Key Responsibilities: * Motivate, engage, and provide one‑to‑one support tailored to each pupil’s learning level. * Assist with developmental areas: speech & language, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting, and presentation skills. * Promote inclusion of pupils with SEN and encourage respectful peer interactions. * Monitor pupils’ responses, adjust instructional approaches, and report observations to the teacher. * Carry out systematic observations to collect evidence of pupils’ knowledge and skill development. * Apply school policies on child protection, health & safety, behaviour, teaching & learning, and equal opportunities. * Ensure compliance with legal and organisational health, safety, and security requirements. Required Skills: * Strong numeracy and literacy (GCSE A‑C or NVQ Level 2). * Effective computing skills for teaching and classroom management. * Prior experience in a primary/secondary educational setting. * Ability to self‑evaluate learning needs and pursue further learning opportunities. * Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with pupils, parents, and staff. Required Education & Certifications: * Minimum of GCSE (A‑C) in English and Mathematics or NVQ Level 2 in related fields. * Enhanced DBS check (or equivalent), satisfactory references, and right‑to‑work verification. * Prohibition from teaching clearance (if applicable).
