Job title: Data Scientist Role Summary: Build, maintain, and enhance demand‑forecasting models for a direct‑to‑consumer e‑commerce wine business, driving inventory planning, pricing, and S&OP decisions. Expectations: Deliver accurate, scalable forecasting solutions using Python and SQL; communicate insights to cross‑functional teams; apply time‑series, regression, and introductory machine learning techniques; collaborate with data, platform, and operations teams to ensure model reliability and production readiness. Key Responsibilities: - Develop and refine time‑series, regression, and ML forecasting models across product segments. - Perform scenario modeling to evaluate promotions, pricing, seasonality, and uncertainty impacts. - Analyze demand drivers (customer behavior, pricing, marketing activity) to improve forecast accuracy. - Validate and monitor model performance, track KPIs (accuracy, bias, variability), and conduct root‑cause analysis. - Support forecasting for new product launches using analogues and early indicators. - Prepare and present forecast outputs, risks, and opportunities for S&OP discussions. - Partner with engineering teams to support data pipelines and model deployment. - Contribute to the analytics community through knowledge sharing and practice improvements. Required Skills: - Strong statistical foundation; proficiency in time‑series decomposition, stationarity tests, and forecast evaluation. - Experience with Prophet, ARIMA, and Gradient Boosting (XGBoost). - Advanced Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit‑learn, Statsmodels, Matplotlib) and SQL. - Data visualization tools (e.g., Looker) and best‑practice application. - Version control with Git; ability to work with ambiguous data and make pragmatic decisions. - Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of translating complex analyses to non‑technical stakeholders. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s in Mathematics, Statistics, CS, or related field with 2–3 years in a D2C e‑commerce environment, **or** - Master’s in Data Science (or equivalent) with 1–2 years of relevant industry experience. No additional certifications required.
