Job title: Senior SQL Server & Data/AI Engineer Role Summary: Own and optimize enterprise SQL Server environments (~10 production databases, ~70% focus on data layer, ETL, and data modeling) while designing AI‑ready data structures (vector stores, RAG pipelines, semantic models). Ensure performance, reliability, security, and maintainability across on‑prem and cloud‑friendly platforms, collaborating with IT, developers, BI, and AI teams. Expactations: Deliver end‑to‑end data layer stability and performance, implement robust ETL pipelines, create AI‑compatible schemas, and define data governance rules for AI usage. Provide architectural decision support, challenge assumptions, and push for scalable, maintainable solutions. Key Responsibilities: - Own, tune, and secure production SQL Server instances & ~10 databases (schemas, code, performance, reliability, security, backups). - Monitor query performance; implement index and statistics strategies, resolve blocking/deadlocks, optimize resource usage. - Maintain and troubleshoot replication, SQL Agent jobs, automation, and disaster‑recovery plans in collaboration with infrastructure/IT. - Design and implement database objects (tables, views, indexes, constraints) for new features and integrations. - Own and improve ETL workflows (SSIS or custom scripts): add logging, monitoring, alerting, restart/recovery patterns; document data flows; enforce data quality and validation. - Refactor and optimize stored procedures, functions, and queries; root‑cause analyze production data issues; enforce development standards and version control. - Prepare enterprise data for AI use cases: design vector‑aware schemas, ingestion pipelines, metadata, and governance for RAG, copilots, or internal assistants. - Evaluate and integrate cloud services (Azure SQL, Azure OpenAI, managed vector stores) with on‑prem infrastructure. - Partner with application, BI, and business stakeholders to align data structures with usage; translate business queries into reusable models/views or semantic layers. - Explore basic SSAS/semantic modeling (if time allows) to support reporting and AI needs.
