Junior Quantitative Developer & Trader
Job Description
Job Title: Junior Quantitative Developer & Trader Role Summary: Begin as a data engineer building the data layer and end as an active trader on a commodity futures desk. The role evolves from developing backend integrations and analytics to designing and operating hedging platforms, ultimately leading to full desk ownership and team leadership. Expectations: - 0–3 years of relevant experience (fresh graduates welcome). - Progress from software development to trading execution, gaining direct P&L responsibility. - Demonstrate self‑direction in ambiguous, data‑heavy environments. Key Responsibilities: - Own the data infrastructure: ingest, clean, and store market and internal data. - Build and maintain ETL pipelines and backend services using Python and SQL. - Develop and deploy internal analytics tools (e.g., FastAPI/Flask, React/Streamlit). - Design and implement hedging strategies for lumber futures and other commodity derivatives. - Execute trades, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot production issues. - Expand trading scope to additional commodities and scale operations. - Lead new hires and mentor junior team members as the desk grows. Required Skills: - Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, SQL). - Experience with SQL databases and ETL pipeline construction. - Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS). - Ability to work with unstructured/messy data. - Strong problem‑solving skills and independence. - Interest in commodity markets and willingness to learn trading fundamentals. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering, or related quantitative field. - Finance or trading certification not required.
