Job Title:
Database Administrator – PostgreSQL & Oracle
Role Summary:
Lead the operational maintenance, performance optimization, and knowledge transfer for PostgreSQL and Oracle databases within a large international IT organization. Replace an external consultant, mentor an alternate, and empower internal teams to sustain high availability, security, and strategic migration initiatives.
Expectations:
- 5‑10 years of database administration experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex relational environments and advance proficiency of internal staff.
- Strong communication, teaching skills, and collaborative mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, monitor, and optimize PostgreSQL (primary) and Oracle databases, including patch management, version upgrades, and index/vacuum tuning.
- Secure databases, perform backups and restores across production and pre‑production environments using tools such as pgBackRest, RMAN, and internal CLIs.
- Develop and maintain maintenance plans (indexing, statistics, backups, patches).
- Conduct performance analysis (query plans, SQL tuning) and implement improvement recommendations.
- Automate routine tasks through Shell, Python, and Ansible scripts.
- Produce technical documentation and deliver training sessions to transfer skills to on‑site teams and alternates.
- Participate in migration and hybrid architecture projects involving PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and occasionally SQL Server.
- Collaborate with DevOps (GitLab CI/CD) and monitoring tools (pgAdmin, OEM, internal dashboards) to ensure continuous service quality.
Required Skills:
- Deep expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle administration.
- Familiarity with MariaDB, MongoDB, SQL Server, and Linux/Windows operating systems.
- Proficiency in Shell scripting, Python, and configuration management (Ansible).
- Experience with backup tools (pgBackRest, RMAN) and security best practices (role management, audit logging).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Ability to design and conduct training workshops.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- DBA certifications preferred (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, PostgreSQL Community Certified Associate).**
