Job Description
**Job Title:** Laboratory Automation and Engineering Intern **Role Summary:** Assist the Sample Bank and Automation Group with the validation of new processes, protocols, and instruments across laboratory robotics to support drug discovery. Gain hands‑on experience with high‑throughput screening systems, advanced scheduling software, liquid handlers, qPCR machines, and flow cytometers, focusing on system integration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. **Expectations:** - 40‑hour work week, full‑time internship aligned with a current university program (enrollment required for Fall 2026). - Engage in hands‑on validation, scripting, and instrument QC activities. - Demonstrate ability to integrate multiple instruments into a cohesive automated workflow. **Key Responsibilities:** - Validate compound management processes using new database systems. - Identify and resolve day‑to‑day operational challenges in automation workflows. - Develop scripts or applications (Python, C#, VB.NET) to control instruments or process data. - Perform routine instrument quality control (QC) and preventive maintenance (PM). - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement automated solutions. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, C#, or VB.NET). - Strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate across functional teams. - Problem‑solving skills, especially for troubleshooting automated systems. - Familiarity with laboratory automation tools and instrument control software. - Basic physical ability to handle lab tasks (standing, lifting up to 50 lb, operating manual controls). **Required Education & Certifications:** - Minimum of one year of college education in an engineering or related technical discipline. - Current enrollment in an accredited academic program (Fall 2026). - No specific certifications required beyond educational background and programming competence.
