About the Company

School District No. 6 Rocky Mountain serves all communities from Golden to Kimberley. There are 18 schools including three alternate schools and one online school in three zones, Golden, including the community of Nicholson, Windermere, including Edgewater, Invermere, and Canal Flats, and Kimberley, including Marysville. The District serves approximately 3500 students, employs approximately 550 staff, and has an operating budget of approximately $54 million dollars. Nine Trustees make up the Board of Education, three from each zone: Its mission, vision, and values guide all decisions, made by the Board of Education. Rocky Mountain School District also serves approximately 80 international students each year. These students from around the world enroll in our schools to study and experience the unique environment that we have to offer in British Columbia.

**Job Title:** Education Assistant (Certified or Non‑Certified) **Role Summary** Provide instructional, behavioral, clinical, and personal‑care support to students with diverse learning needs under teacher or principal supervision. Facilitate inclusive learning experiences, ensure compliance with safety and individualized plans, and assist with classroom adaptation and assistive technology. **Expectations** - Operate independently yet collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. - Adhere strictly to student safety plans, confidentiality, and district policies. - Deliver proactive, trauma‑informed care while modeling respect and empathy. - Maintain flexibility to adapt to varied student needs and changing schedules. **Key Responsibilities** - Participate in Individual Educational Planning (IEP) meetings, school‑team conferences, parent meetings, and open houses. - Follow written student safety plans and coordinate emergency protocols. - Provide instructional assistance, behavior management, and record‑keeping (e.g., communication books, journals, observation charts). - Adapt classroom materials to meet individualized accommodations. - Support student independence in accessing curriculum and using accommodations. - With training, assist in delivering medical procedures and allied‑health programs (OT, PT, speech). - Supervise students during school outings and maintain safe environments. - Assist in developing and maintaining community‑work‑experience placements for students with special needs. - Aid students with personal care activities (toileting, dressing, eating, mobility, communication). - Operate assistive technology tools (Microsoft 365 accessibility, Kurzweil, Clicker 5, Co‑Writer, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.). - Encourage independence and inclusion for all learners. - Support class‑wide activities and teacher‑directed instruction. - Preserve confidentiality and demonstrate professional discretion. **Required Skills** - Genuine interest and knowledge of diverse abilities and disabilities. - Initiative, self‑management, and ability to work with minimal supervision. - Effective interpersonal and crisis‑management skills, including low‑arousal or non‑violent intervention. - High adaptability, responsibility, and flexibility. - Trauma‑informed care, empathy, and respect for sensitivity. - Proficiency in using classroom technology and assistive software. **Required Education & Certifications** - High‑school diploma or equivalent. - Post‑secondary training: Special Education Assistant Program, counseling, social work, childcare, or early childhood education. - Certified candidates: completed a one‑year Certificate of Education Assistant Program. - Non‑certified candidates may hold a certificate/diploma in counseling, social work, or early childhood education. ---
