Job Description

Job Title: Intern – Python Backend Engineer Role Summary: Python Backend Developer intern joining a high‑growth renewable energy startup. Responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing APIs and backend services that power a geospatial algorithm used to identify optimal solar installation sites. Collaborates cross‑functionally with technical risk‑assessment and product teams to add new data sources and features, and contributes to codebase quality and documentation. Expectations: - Complete an internship of 6–12 months, starting immediately. - Deliver clean, tested code that meets performance and security standards. - Work independently, take initiative, and communicate progress effectively. - Engage in continuous learning of domain–specific technologies (geospatial, cloud). Key Responsibilities: 1. Design, implement, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in Python. 2. Integrate new data sources to enrich solar site identification models. 3. Troubleshoot technical issues, profile applications, and perform performance tuning. 4. Write and maintain technical documentation and API specifications. 5. Enforce and improve coding standards, code reviews, and automated testing. 6. Collaborate with DevOps to manage Linux environments, Docker containers, and CI/CD pipelines. Required Skills: - Strong proficiency in Python programming and object‑oriented design. - Solid understanding of REST API principles and web development concepts. - Basic knowledge of Git version control and branching workflows. - Familiarity with Python web frameworks (FastAPI, Django) – preferred. - Experience with relational databases (SQL) and ORM usage. - Exposure to GIS tools (PostGIS, QGIS, ArcGIS) or geospatial data handling – a plus. - Comfort working in a Linux environment and using containers (Docker). Required Education & Certifications: - Current or recent student pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. - Coursework or projects demonstrating Python development, API design, or database interaction. - No specific certifications required, but knowledge of Docker, Git, or GIS tools is beneficial.
