Job Description
**Job Title** Automation Engineering Intern **Role Summary** Assist in the design, development, and implementation of automation systems for water and wastewater facilities. Activities include drafting electrical and instrumentation drawings, programming and testing PLCs, OIT/HMI interfaces, and SCADA/DCS platforms, fabricating control panels, and supporting field installation and commissioning. **Expectations** Provide technical assistance to senior engineers in concept development, detailed design, programming, and field execution. Manage and document all phases of automation projects from drafting to commissioning. Execute physical tasks such as wiring, mounting, and testing control panels and conduct site instrumentation configuration. Occasionally lift up to 50 lb. **Key Responsibilities** - Draft Single‑Line Diagrams, P&IDs, control‑panel schematics, and detailed installation drawings. - Program and test PLC, OIT, and HMI applications using in‑house software. - Fabricate control panels: component mounting, wiring, and functional testing. - Install and configure instrumentation, power‑distribution, industrial networking, and telemetry systems at client sites. - Support system start‑up, commissioning, and troubleshooting under supervision. - Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of design progress and field results. - Coordinate with design staff, project managers, and field crews to ensure schedule adherence. - Adhere to safety and quality standards, including proper electrical wiring and grounding practices. **Required Skills** - Advanced computer literacy; proficiency with CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and PLC programming environments. - Fundamental knowledge of electrical distribution, instrumentation, SCADA/DCS, industrial networking, and telemetry. - Strong written, verbal, and digital communication skills. - Effective organization, time‑management, and multitasking capabilities. - Problem‑solving aptitude and ability to work independently and collaboratively. - Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lb. **Required Education & Certifications** - Current enrollment in a 2‑year or 4‑year degree program in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field. - No specific certifications required.
