Senior BI Developer I Contractor
**Role Summary**
Provide enterprise‑wide analytical support and develop scalable BI solutions using Microsoft Power BI, advanced data modeling, and ETL processes. Deliver data products that enable data‑driven decision making for internal stakeholders while ensuring high performance, quality, and adherence to best practices.
**Expectations**
- Design, build, and maintain robust Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models.
- Collaborate with developers, business SMEs, and leadership to identify requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Integrate data from SQL databases, cloud services, Excel, and other sources; develop and maintain data pipelines.
- Produce quick proof‑of‑concept models and optimize existing solutions, including migration from legacy platforms.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences and promote platform capabilities.
- Apply Azure DevOps practices and basic project management to deliver timely progress.
- Work independently, manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment; occasional after‑hours and maintenance periods.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop advanced, scalable Power BI data models, reports, and dashboards.
- Perform data discovery, complex analysis across Microsoft SQL, Azure Fabric, Power BI, and Excel.
- Integrate and cleanse data from SQL, Excel, cloud, and other BI tools; ensure quality and consistency.
- Create and maintain ETL pipelines; support data quality initiatives.
- Deliver proofs of concept, adapt legacy solutions, and update frameworks to meet evolving requirements.
- Augment models with business terms, definitions, and metadata.
- Demonstrate and evangelize Power BI capabilities and emerging BI technologies.
- Collaborate on Azure DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, and agile development cycles.
- Communicate progress and findings to cross‑functional teams.
**Required Skills**
- Advanced Power BI: custom visuals, Power Query, DAX, M language.
- Data modeling and dimensional modeling, ETL, SQL (on‑prem and cloud).
- Experience with Azure Data services (SQL Database, Data Factory, etc.).
- Integration of data from diverse sources (SQL, Excel, cloud services).
- Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
- Familiarity with machine learning and advanced analytics concepts.
- Knowledge of SSAS Tabular, DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, ALM Toolkit.
- Experience with other BI tools (Tableau, Cognos) preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge of SQL, Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Understanding of agile development and familiarity with Smartsheet or Azure DevOps.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications highly desirable: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
