Job Description
**Job title** ML Intern – Research (Drug Discovery) **Role Summary** Intern contributes to AI system development for drug discovery, focusing on multi‑omic foundation models, advanced structural biology methods, and autonomous science frameworks. Work includes designing, implementing, and deploying scalable machine‑learning solutions, collaborating with cross‑disciplinary scientists, and communicating results through talks, blog posts, and publications. **Expectations** - Hold a current PhD, post‑doctoral, or master’s program in computer science, data science, or a related field. - Demonstrate strong programming proficiency in Python and modern software practices. - Build and deploy high‑performance deep‑learning algorithms at scale. - Design new architectures, conduct experimentation, analyze results, and visualize insights. - Translate research papers into working models and summarize scientific content. - Show enthusiasm for applying ML to real‑world drug‑discovery challenges. **Key Responsibilities** - Support Valence Labs’ core research initiatives in ML for drug discovery. - Develop and refine novel machine‑learning methods to accelerate pharmaceutical development. - Collaborate with both dry‑lab and wet‑lab scientific teams to guide model design and integration. - Present research findings through talks, blog posts, peer‑reviewed conference submissions, and other publication venues. **Required Skills** - Advanced programming in Python, including use of deep‑learning libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow). - Experience building distributed, high‑performance ML systems. - Proficiency in linear algebra, calculus, and statistics. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. - Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to multidisciplinary audiences. **Required Education & Certifications** - Enrollment in or completion of a PhD, post‑doctoral fellowship, or master’s degree program in computer science, computational biology, data science, or a closely related field. - (Optional) Peer‑reviewed publication in a top ML conference such as NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.
