Job Description
Job title: Accountant Role Summary: Provide full-cycle accounting support for multiple portfolio companies, including transaction processing, reconciliations, payroll, compliance filings, and month‑end/year‑end reporting. Identify and implement process improvements and automation to increase efficiency. Expactations: - Deliver accurate, timely bookkeeping and financial reporting. - Ensure compliance with Canadian tax and employment regulations. - Collaborate proactively with the team to prioritize tasks and resolve issues. - Continuously seek opportunities to optimize accounting workflows. Key Responsibilities: - Process and reconcile all company transactions with precision. - Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, and bank monitoring. - Own end‑to‑end payroll for assigned companies (≤30 employees): gather inputs, run payroll, issue ROEs, produce T4/T4A, and ensure regulatory compliance. - Prepare compliance returns (GST/HST, PST, WCB, EHT). - Support month‑end and year‑end working paper preparation. - Conduct ad‑hoc analyses and reporting to support business objectives. - Identify and propose automation/efficiency initiatives for billing, payment, and reconciliation. Required Skills: - Proficiency in cloud accounting platforms (Xero, QuickBooks Online). - Experience with payroll systems (Rippling, Payworks or equivalent). - Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis). - In‑depth knowledge of Canadian tax compliance and employment standards. - Excellent communication, organizational, and detail‑oriented mindset. - Initiative‑driven and comfortable working in a lean team environment. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. - CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification preferred but not mandatory. - Familiarity with Canadian tax regulations and payroll legislation.
