Job title: Senior Database Engineer
Role Summary:
Lead and manage enterprise database environments across SQL Server and Oracle platforms, overseeing installation, configuration, performance tuning, security, high‑availability, disaster recovery, and migration initiatives for on‑premise, VMware, Azure, and AWS deployments. Provide 24x7 support, execute upgrades and patches, and maintain comprehensive documentation and audit trails.

- Conduct proactive maintenance, performance monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with operations to support continuous availability and meet SLA targets.
- Maintain rigorous security compliance (TDE, STIG, audit logging).
- Respond to incidents swiftly and conduct root‑cause analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and administer Microsoft SQL Server (2019/2017/2016/2014/2012/2022) and Oracle databases (18c/19c) on Windows and Linux.
- Setup and manage SQL Server Always‑On Availability Groups, failover clustering, replication, mirroring, log shipping, and Azure Managed Instance services.
- Deploy Oracle RAC, Enterprise Manager, RMAN backups, Data Guard, and perform on‑prem to Azure migrations.
- Execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations across platforms, ensuring minimal impact.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, Linux Shell, Azure CLI) for routine tasks, health checks, index maintenance, and monitoring.
- Monitor system performance via SQL Profiler, Extended Events, Performance Monitor, OEM, and custom scripts; analyze execution plans and optimize queries.
- Manage user accounts, roles, permissions, and enforce least‑privilege access controls.
- Conduct security audits, implement TDE, and ensure compliance with STIG guidelines.
- Maintain CMDB records, configuration documentation, change logs, and generate performance reports.
- Lead disaster‑recovery testing, provide recommendations, and support on‑call rotations.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in SQL Server and Oracle database administration (installation, configuration, tuning, backup/restore).
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server Always‑On, clustering, high‑availability, and Azure Managed Instances.
- Proficiency with Oracle RAC, RMAN, Data Guard, Enterprise Manager, and patch management.
- Experience in VMware, Azure (IaaS/PaaS), AWS RDS/EC2 database operations.
- Advanced query performance tuning, execution plan analysis, and index optimization.
- Security focus: TDE, Transparent Encryption, STIG compliance, audit logging.
- Scripting: PowerShell, Linux Shell, SQL Server Agent, Azure Automation.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (SQL Profiler, Extended Events, OEM, custom dashboards).
- Problem‑solving, incident response, and root‑cause analysis abilities.
- Clear communication and documentation skills for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) and Microsoft SQL Server Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred).
- Additional certifications: Azure Administrator, AWS Certified Database – Specialty, or similar are advantageous.
