Job Description
Job title: Senior Highway Project Engineer Role Summary: Lead the planning, design, and execution of major highway infrastructure projects in Virginia, managing multidisciplinary teams and ensuring regulatory compliance to deliver timely, within-budget projects that enhance transportation networks. Expactations: - Deliver projects meeting Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) quality, safety, and environmental standards. - Manage multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing tasks and maintaining client satisfaction. - Provide clear leadership and communication to stakeholders, contractors, and government agencies. Key Responsibilities: - Oversee all project phases from feasibility studies to final construction. - Review and approve detailed designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads. - Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and safety requirements. - Coordinate with government agencies, contractors, utilities, and community groups to secure approvals and align objectives. - Develop and monitor project budgets, schedules, and resource allocations using MS Dynamics and related tools. - Conduct site inspections, resolve field issues, and enforce design and safety specifications. - Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders. Required Skills: - Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads; experience with MS Dynamics. - Strong project management skills: planning, estimating, scheduling, budgeting, and monitoring. - In-depth knowledge of VDOT and Virginia local regulations, environmental and safety standards. - Excellent organizational, time‑management, communication, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to solve complex problems and implement effective solutions in fast‑paced environments. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related AEC field. - Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in highway project planning, design, and construction. - Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Virginia. - Master’s Degree and additional certifications preferred.
