Job Description
**Job title:** Freelance NVQ Assessor **Role Summary:** Provide independent assessment, coaching, and feedback to learners pursuing NVQ qualifications in fire door inspection, installation, and wood occupations. Ensure all assessments meet awarding body standards and support learners’ successful progression through the programme. **Expectations:** - Deliver high‑quality coaching and assessment for each learner. - Work autonomously with flexible hours and location. - Meet agreed deadlines, maintain accurate records, and achieve payment terms (per learner, portfolio, visit, or day‑rate). **Key Responsibilities:** - Conduct valid, reliable assessments in line with NVQ and awarding body criteria. - Observe learners in workplace or remotely, collect and judge evidence, and document decisions. - Build learner evidence portfolios using e‑portfolio systems. - Provide tailored guidance, action plans, constructive feedback, and progress monitoring. - Maintain auditable assessment records and participate in standardisation meetings. - Ensure compliance with quality assurance, safeguarding, data protection, and confidentiality. - Liaise with employers to schedule observations and report progress. - Manage caseload, schedule, and communication with learners, employers, and QA teams. **Required Skills:** - Recognised assessor qualification (A1, TAQA, CAVA, or equivalent). - Strong occupational competence in fire door inspection/installation or wood occupations. - Proven experience delivering and assessing NVQs or similar vocational qualifications. - Excellent communication, coaching, and organisational skills. - Ability to work independently and manage a flexible workload. - Proficiency with digital tools (laptop, internet, e‑portfolio platforms). **Required Education & Certifications:** - A1, TAQA, CAVA, or equivalent NVQ assessor qualification. - Fire door industry experience (mandatory). - IQA qualification (IQA, V1, etc.) – desirable. - Experience with platforms such as OneFile, Smart Assessor, or Learning Assistant – desirable. - Current CPD in sector and assessment practice – desirable.
