**Job Title:** Director, Security
**Role Summary:**
Leads and continuously advances a comprehensive safety and security program for a 525‑bed tertiary care hospital. Provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and regulatory compliance to protect patients, staff, visitors, and assets while fostering a culture of safety and service excellence.
**Expectations:**
- Achieve full operational success of the security unit.
- Direct armed security personnel with sound judgment on weapon use.
- Ensure all officers meet fitness, psychological, and certification standards within required timeframes.
- Develop and enforce security policies aligned with healthcare regulations and risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership, law enforcement, and emergency services.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Design, implement, and evaluate security policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Oversee daily security operations, including staffing, scheduling, and incident command.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and vulnerability analyses across the campus.
- Manage training programs: firearms certification, de‑escalation, physical intervention, and Handle‑with‑Care instruction.
- Ensure compliance with Virginia DCJS Armed Officer Certificate, Fit‑for‑Duty, and psychological evaluation requirements.
- Prepare and present security reports, metrics, and budget recommendations to executive leadership.
- Coordinate investigations of incidents, crimes, and security breaches; maintain accurate documentation.
- Serve as primary liaison with local law enforcement, fire services, and emergency medical responders.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through education, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.
**Required Skills:**
- Proven leadership of armed security teams in complex, high‑risk environments.
- In‑depth knowledge of security regulations, healthcare safety standards, and risk management.
- Strong decision‑making, crisis management, and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Budgetary and resource planning competence.
- Proficiency in security technology, reporting tools, and incident management systems.
- High ethical standards, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree (required).
- Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Armed Officer Certificate – to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- De‑escalation and Physical Intervention Training certification – to be completed within 180 days of hire (Handle with Care‑Instructor certification acceptable).
- Successful completion of Fit‑for‑Duty assessment.
- Pass mandated Psychological Evaluation and Assessment.
- Additional security or law‑enforcement certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP) preferred but not required.
