About the Company

POhWER was established in Hertfordshire in 1996 by service users who had successfully supported each other in addressing injustice and social exclusion. Since then we have delivered improved outcomes for people by providing a range of information, advice and advocacy services and have become the largest user-led national advocacy provider in England. We support people to speak up and be heard. We currently provide: - Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) - Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) - Independent Health Complaints Advocacy (IHCA) - Independent Care Act Advocacy (ICAA) - Community Advocacy We have a national Help Hub which is based in Birmingham and offers a gateway to information, advice and advocacy services throughout POhWER. POhWER is a leading secure services advocacy provider, working in more than 90 units in England, Scotland and Wales. The people we work with have learning disabilities, enduring mental health conditions, behaviours that challenge, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, autistic spectrum disorders and personality disorders. We work in a range of settings including prisons, high, medium and low secure hospitals, Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, acute settings, step-down units and residential facilities. We deliver face-to-face, non-instructed, group and self-advocacy services, as well as supporting patient forums. Job Description
**Job Title** Secure & Complex Services Advocate **Role Summary** Advocate for vulnerable adults with profound and multiple needs, ensuring their rights and preferences are represented. Provide persuasive verbal and written representations, maintain confidential records, and work independently to deliver high‑quality advocacy within secure and complex settings. **Expectations** - Demonstrated experience with individuals detained under the Mental Health Act and those with a forensic history. - Ability to manage pressure and adversity in challenging environments. - Understanding of risk management in secure environments and experience working with clients exhibiting profound needs or challenging behaviour. - Full UK driving licence, access to own vehicle, and willingness to travel within the designated area. **Key Responsibilities** - Represent clients in accordance with their instructions and relevant legislation. - Communicate regularly and appropriately with clients and agencies, keeping clients informed of progress. - Deliver persuasive verbal and written representations of clients’ views and preferences. - Maintain accurate client records in line with data protection and organisational policies. - Complete tasks promptly to a high standard, ensuring compliance with internal guidance. **Required Skills** - Excellent communication and listening skills. - Proven ability to provide persuasive verbal and written advocacy. - Strong time‑management and computer literacy. - Flexibility and independence in work. - Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, forensic settings, and risk management in secure environments. **Required Education & Certifications** - Relevant social care, health, or advocacy qualification (e.g., Diploma in Social Work, Health and Social Care). - Enhanced DBS check and National Offender Management Service vetting. - Full UK driving licence and own vehicle.
