Job Description
**Job Title** Orthopaedic Technologist / Technician **Role Summary** Provides direct, client‑centered orthopaedic care in emergency, fracture/plastics clinics, inpatient and operating‑room settings. Supports surgical and non‑surgical procedures, manages supplies and equipment, and delivers education on orthopaedic treatments and after‑care to patients and families. Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high‑quality, safe, and efficient care for acute injuries, post‑operative follow‑up, and chronic conditions. **Expectations** - Adhere to shared governance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous quality improvement standards. - Maintain patient safety and inclusive practices in all clinical environments. - Function independently with minimal supervision while effectively communicating with physicians, nurses, and allied health staff. - Execute routine casting, splinting, traction, dressing, and minor procedural support, interpreting radiographs as directed. - Participate in ongoing professional development and meet CSOT registration requirements. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Manage patient flow in ED, fracture/plastics clinics, and inpatient units. 2. Apply, modify, and remove casts, splints, slabs, bandages, braces, staples, sutures, pins, and external fixators. 3. Set up and maintain traction equipment (skin, skeletal, manual) and educate patients on traction therapy. 4. Perform basic wound care, dressing changes, and aseptic techniques for minor procedures. 5. Assist orthopaedic surgeons in the OR when requested. 6. Provide patient and family education on cast care, appliance use, wound care, osteoporosis, injections, crutch use, and pre‑operative preparation. 7. Maintain equipment, order supplies, and ensure readiness for scheduled procedures. 8. Interpret and document x‑ray findings per medical direction. 9. Float to ED, fracture/plastics clinics, inpatient units, or OR as needed. 10. Complete accurate documentation in electronic health records and adherence to safety protocols. **Required Skills** - Proficiency in casting, splinting, traction, and wound care. - Aseptic technique and infection control knowledge. - Ability to interpret orthopaedic radiographs. - Strong verbal and written communication; patient‑centric teaching. - Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and ability to work independently. - Organizational and time‑management skills in fast‑paced settings. - Problem‑solving and critical thinking for patient care and equipment management. - Basic understanding of orthopaedic injuries, conditions, and technologies. **Required Education & Certifications** - Orthopaedic Technologist Diploma or completion of a recognized orthopaedic technologist program certified by the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists (CSOT). - OR orthopaedic technician progressing to technologist status with current CSOT student membership. - Successful completion of CSOT written, oral, and practical examinations and current full membership. - Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. - Minimum 2 years of direct orthopaedic patient care experience in fast‑paced settings. **Additional Qualifications** - Demonstrated continuing education compliance per CSOT registration. - Ability to interpret fractures and dislocations on x‑ray film. - Reliable attendance, punctuality, and adherence to safety policies.

Key Responsibilities: • Gather and document BPMHs for incoming patients. • Participate in pharmacy department clinical sharing, peer teaching, and learning activities. • Shadow clinical pharmacists to observe scope of practice and workflow. • Recognize and respect limits of scope in medication management. • Perform additional duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations.
