Job Description
**Job Title** Mechanical Design Engineer (H/F) **Role Summary** Lead the mechanical design activities for complex systems within a defense‑aerospace engineering center. Responsible for architecture definition, pre‑dimensioning studies, design reviews, advanced calculations, documentation, and support throughout the product life cycle from concept to production. **Expectations** Deliver high‑quality mechanical solutions that meet technical, cost, and schedule targets. Act as the technical owner for mechanical aspects, justify design decisions with robust documentation, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams on design, manufacture, and qualification. Provide on‑site technical support during industrialization and production, and participate in audits and maturity reviews. **Key Responsibilities** - Define mechanical architectures for complex systems using CATIA V5 (including RDM modules) and established dimensioning chains. - Conduct pre‑dimensioning studies to assess feasibility of proposed solutions. - Co‑lead mechanical system design reviews with project managers and present outcomes to technical audits. - Organize and manage CAD design activities, coordinating with design engineers or external partners. - Oversee advanced simulation activities (thermal, dynamics, statics, multiphysics) via external mechanical simulation teams. - Produce comprehensive technical documentation: Design Definition Files, Justification Dossiers, test reports, and other engineering artifacts. - Support product development across the lifecycle: RFP response, qualification, and manufacturing. - Provide mechanical study support to manufacturing plants, handling technical issues, deviation acceptances, and leading 8D/root‑cause analysis for major problems. - Travel to production sites, client and supplier locations domestically and internationally as required. **Required Skills** - Expertise in mechanical design, including bearings, glues, sensor integration, materials, surface treatments, and sealing. - Proficient in CAD (CATIA V5/V6 or equivalent) and advanced pre‑dimensioning tools (ATH, GDA, GDE). - Capable of performing finite element, thermal, and dynamic simulations (ANSYS Workbench); familiarity with Dassault’s 3D Experience is advantageous. - Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes for steel and aluminium (foundry, machining, extrusion, sheet metal). - Competence in functional dimensioning (ISO) and dimensioning / tolerancing chains. - Understanding of kinematics and transmission technologies (ball screws, gear drives, motors, actuators). - Bilingual in English and French. - Defense clearance (Habilitation Défense). **Required Education & Certifications** - Master’s degree (Bac +5) in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics. - Minimum 5 years of experience in aerospace or defense mechanical equipment design. - Relevant certifications in mechanical design, simulation, or manufacturing processes are a plus.
