Job Description
Job Title: R&D Optical Engineer Role Summary: Research and develop free‑space optical systems for satellite-to-ground and inter‑satellite communications. Lead experimental ground station projects, validate performance, and support demonstration missions in a multidisciplinary environment. Expectations: - 3–4 years of academic or industrial R&D experience, ideally with a completed thesis. - Strong foundation in free‑space optics and laboratory manipulation. - Proficient in basic programming (Python, C, Matlab). - Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Key Responsibilities: - Design, build, and test ground‑station optics for satellite‑to‑ground links. - Operate and troubleshoot experimental missions and partner demonstrations. - Identify, evaluate, and manage new suppliers and contractors. - Conduct performance testing and validation of optical systems. - Produce and update technical documentation (schematics, specifications, procedures, design files). - Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and software teams on cross‑disciplinary projects. Required Skills: - Expertise in free‑space optics and experimental setups. - Hands‑on optics handling and alignment. - Programming skills in Python, C, or Matlab. - Excellent communication in English (technical writing and presentations). - Ability to work autonomously and within a team. - Strong analytical, synthesis, and proactive mindset. - Interest in integration and system interfacing. Required Education & Certifications: - Engineer graduate (Bac+5) in optics or equivalent field, preferably with a PhD. - Academic thesis demonstrating research in optical systems. - Demonstrated 3–4 years of relevant R&D experience (internships included).
