Job Description
**Job Title** Back‑End Engineer **Role Summary** Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance, scalable, fault‑tolerant backend services for the FoundryOS platform using Kotlin and related JVM technologies. Work collaboratively in cross‑functional squads to deliver quality code, support production deployments, and influence architectural direction within an agile, remote‑friendly environment. **Expectations** - Minimum 2 years of professional experience with Kotlin or other JVM languages. - Strong commitment to Test‑Driven Development, functional programming, and continuous integration/continuous deployment. - Ability to work collaboratively in pair‑programming and shared‑code ownership settings. - Proactive ownership of feature delivery and production support. - Flexibility to work remotely or on‑site as needed while maintaining effective team relationships. **Key Responsibilities** - Develop and test robust backend services using Kotlin, Coroutines, Arrow, Ktor, and Exposed. - Participate in feature design discussions and strategic architectural reviews. - Build event‑sourced microservices and integrate with GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and Concourse pipelines. - Implement data and messaging solutions with PostgreSQL and Kafka. - Set up and maintain observability using Grafana, Jaeger, and Prometheus. - Collaborate with platform and front‑end engineers to deliver end‑to‑end functionality. - Monitor production environments, troubleshoot incidents, and ensure reliable deployments. **Required Skills** - Kotlin (or comparable JVM language) with solid understanding of coroutines and functional concepts. - Experience with event‑sourced microservices architecture. - Proficiency in cloud deployment tools: Google Cloud Platform, Docker, Kubernetes, Concourse. - Database and messaging: PostgreSQL, Kafka. - Observability stack: Grafana, Jaeger, Prometheus. - Test‑Driven Development, CI/CD pipelines, Agile/iterative development. - Strong communication, teamwork, and collaborative design abilities. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field **or** equivalent practical experience. - No specific certifications required; relevant certifications (e.g., Kotlin, GCP) are a plus.
