Job Description

Job Title: Head of Legal Role Summary: Senior legal leader responsible for managing the organisation’s legal and data protection functions, guiding a team of four, and ensuring robust compliance with UK GDPR while overseeing a broad portfolio of commercial contracts. Expectations: Deliver timely, pragmatic legal advice; lead and develop the legal team; maintain high standards of contract quality and governance; support senior leadership in risk‑aware decision making; uphold the company’s intellectual property rights; and champion effective data protection practices. Key Responsibilities: - Lead, mentor and develop the Legal team, ensuring efficient and solution‑focused support on contracts and commercial matters. - Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (IT, consultancy, supplier, sponsorship, marketing, collaboration). - Provide ad‑hoc legal counsel for projects, collaborations, and business initiatives. - Maintain and refine contract templates, processes, and guidance to enhance clarity and efficiency. - Collaborate closely with Procurement to streamline internal contracting workflows. - Support senior leaders in legal risk management and proportionate decision‑making. - Protect the organisation’s copyright, trademarks, and licensing frameworks, managing potential infringements. - Oversee operational data protection activities, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR and strong governance. - Build and sustain relationships with internal stakeholders to promote effective legal and compliance practices. Required Skills: - Qualified solicitor or CILEx with solid commercial contract experience. - Proven ability to lead and develop a legal team. - Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and data protection law. - Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills. - Proactive, organised, and focused on sensible risk management. - Ability to translate complex legal concepts into business‑relevant guidance. Required Education & Certifications: - Qualified Solicitor or CILEx registration with strong PQE.
