Job title: Project Developer (Private‑Wire Solar & Storage)
Role Summary: Lead the development of private‑wire solar and battery‑energy‑storage system (BESS) projects in the UK, steering them from early concept through to ready‑to‑build status. Build and standardise internal processes, and collaborate across technical, planning, legal, and commercial functions.
Expectations: Deliver multiple 5 MW+ private‑wire projects to ready‑to‑build within a 6‑ to 12‑month contract, with demonstrated ability to progress several projects in parallel. Establish repeatable frameworks and contribute to the company’s hybrid solar‑plus‑storage strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess suitable sites for private‑wire solar and BESS, conducting constraint mapping, grid capacity evaluation, yield analysis, and cable routing studies.
- Engage landowners and agents to secure exclusive site control; negotiate and formalise land agreements (Heads of Terms, lease options, easements, wayleaves, access rights).
- Coordinate technical, planning, commercial, environmental, and permitting workstreams to achieve ready‑to‑build status.
- Support the commercial team in structuring private‑wire power purchase agreements (PPAs) and offtake arrangements with commercial and industrial clients.
- Develop and disseminate internal best‑practice frameworks for private‑wire solar and hybrid projects.
- Build and maintain relationships with corporate offtakers, landowners, planning authorities, distribution network operators (DNOs), and technical partners.
Required Skills:
- Proven track record developing private‑wire or large‑scale (≥ 5 MW) solar and BESS projects in the UK.
- Strong negotiation skills for land agreements (heads of terms, leases, easements).
- Deep understanding of site constraints, planning requirements, grid integration, and environmental assessments for ground‑mounted solar and BESS.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently from concept to RTB.
- Commercial awareness of PPA structures, land valuation, and key value drivers for C&I offtakers.
- Clear, confident communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
- Proficiency in interpreting surveys, layout designs, environmental studies, and grid studies.
- Fluent in English.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional industry certifications (e.g., IEE, PV technical qualification) are a plus but not mandatory.
