Job Description
**Job Title:** Bioinformatician **Role Summary:** Develop, maintain, and extend custom bioinformatics workflows that support target discovery and drug development in neurodegenerative disease research. Collaborate with biological and computational teams to analyze Illumina and PacBio sequencing data, ensuring reproducible, scalable analyses and translating findings into actionable insights. **Expectations:** - Advanced expertise in transcriptomics and human genomics. - Proven ability to deliver multiple analytical projects concurrently in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven setting. - Strong coding, documentation, and communication skills. - Proficiency in cloud‑based computing and large‑scale data management. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Design, implement, and refine custom bioinformatics pipelines and scripts (R, Python) for Illumina and PacBio data. 2. Perform bespoke analyses (variant calling, differential expression, pathway enrichment, splicing, isoform discovery, single‑cell RNA‑seq) tailored to specific biological questions. 3. Manage and scale workflows on AWS or equivalent cloud platforms. 4. Maintain organized, reproducible data storage, ensuring integrity and traceability. 5. Interpret genomics/transcriptomics results in a disease‑relevant context and produce clear reports, visualizations, and presentations for computational and experimental collaborators. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency in Python and/or R, with strong statistical analysis capability. - Experience building pipelines with Snakemake, Nextflow, or similar workflow managers. - Hands‑on NGS experience: DNA‑ and RNA‑seq, variant calling, differential expression, pathway/functional analysis; single‑cell RNA‑seq or splicing analysis preferred. - Familiarity with long‑read RNA‑seq (PacBio ISO‑Seq) analytics. - Cloud‑computing skills (AWS, data scaling). - Excellent documentation, reproducibility practices. - Clear communication across multidisciplinary teams. **Required Education & Certifications:** - PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field, with demonstrable transcriptomics experience. - Solid understanding of human disease biology and genetics.
