Job Description
Job title: Commercial Attorney – Data Center Colocation Role Summary: Contract attorney responsible for leading negotiations and drafting complex data center colocation agreements for a fast‑growing AI infrastructure company. Owns high‑value, technically sophisticated supplier contracts and collaborates cross‑functionally with legal, engineering, and business teams to expedite deal execution while reducing reliance on external counsel. Expectations: • Negotiate and close colocation agreements within a 6‑month engagement. • Deliver clear, enforceable contracts that align with technical and commercial objectives. • Demonstrate strong judgment and strategic thinking with minimal guidance. • Act as the primary internal liaison, streamlining communication between stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: 1. Lead negotiations of data center colocation agreements with hyperscaler and large‑scale data center vendors. 2. Draft, review, and negotiate contract terms, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and company policies. 3. Coordinate with engineering, product, and finance teams to incorporate technical specifications and commercial requirements. 4. Identify and mitigate risks, proposing solutions to address potential issues early in the negotiation cycle. 5. Manage the negotiation workflow, maintaining tight timelines and deliverables. 6. Reduce dependency on outside counsel by handling most contractual work in‑house. 7. Maintain accurate documentation and version control of all agreement drafts and communication. Required Skills: - Advanced negotiation and mediation skills. - Expertise in drafting and interpreting data center colocation agreements. - Technical understanding of data center operations, capacity planning, and network architecture. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. - Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills. - Ability to work independently in a remote, fast‑paced environment. Required Education & Certifications: - Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. - Admission to the bar in a jurisdiction where the client operates (e.g., California). - Minimum 5 years of practicing law with a focus on contractual negotiations in the tech or data center industry, including hyperscaler experience. - (Optional) Relevant certifications in data center operations or contract management appreciated.
