Job Description
**Job Title:** Patient Relations Consultant **Role Summary:** Leads and manages the health organization’s patient/family/public feedback resolution process. Acts as a liaison and coach to ensure timely, person‑centered responses, fosters a culture of empathy and collaboration, and supports continuous improvement of patient experience across all service areas. **Expectations:** - Ensure compliance with relevant health legislation, policies, and accreditation standards. - Deliver high‑quality, ethical decision‑making in handling sensitive feedback. - Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of all cases. - Provide mentorship and training to supervisors, managers, and clinicians. - Drive system‑wide initiatives to enhance patient experience and quality of care. **Key Responsibilities:** - Review, investigate, and coordinate resolution of patient/family/public concerns submitted via the Provincial Safety Management System. - Facilitate collaborative resolution meetings and negotiate outcomes with leadership and stakeholders. - Develop and promote the strategic vision for the Patient Relations Program in alignment with organizational goals. - Mentor and coach staff on effective communication, conflict management, and feedback response techniques. - Conduct trend analysis, generate recommendations, and support quality‑improvement projects. - Ensure adherence to the Health Information Act, FOIP Act, Health Service Act, Consent to Treatment Act, Mental Health Act, and Long‑Term Care Act. - Create and deliver educational resources and training programs on patient relations processes. - Serve as an independent resource across departments to enforce best practices and policy compliance. **Required Skills:** - Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship‑building abilities. - Excellent oral and written communication; ability to produce plain‑language responses. - Conflict resolution, mediation, and ethical decision‑making expertise. - Proven problem‑solving, decision‑making, and moral judgment. - Ability to handle upset individuals with tact, empathy, and confidentiality. - Project and workload management; multitasking and prioritization. - Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and internet research. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in health or social sciences, health administration, public relations, communication, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). - Licensure/registration with a relevant professional health organization (required for health‑related professions). - Minimum 5 years of experience in a health‑care setting, preferably in feedback resolution or patient experience roles. - Knowledge of Accreditation Canada standards focusing on person‑ and family‑centered care. - Preferred: Master’s degree; certification or training in mediation and coaching.
