Job Description
Job Title: Interim Chief Technology Officer Role Summary: 6–9 month interim executive role leading transformation of a large‑scale, regulated financial services platform. Responsibilities include stabilizing operations, modernizing legacy systems, establishing governance, and building a high‑performance engineering culture. Expectations: Deliver a pragmatic technology strategy aligned with commercial and regulatory goals; restore confidence in delivery and risk management; execute a modernization roadmap; maintain operational resilience; provide board‑level reporting and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities: - Define and articulate a clear technology strategy in partnership with the CEO, CFO, and executive team. - Partner with the Board and senior committee to report on risk, resilience, and delivery progress. - Assess current architecture and operating model; develop a realistic modernization roadmap for scalability, security, and resilience. - Introduce modern engineering standards, DevOps practices, and continuous improvement processes. - Evaluate and refine leadership structure and accountability across engineering, architecture, product, data, and security. - Strengthen governance, controls, and operational resilience to meet UK regulatory expectations. - Build and sustain trust across business units, regulators, and external stakeholders. - Lead through complexity, balancing short‑term stability with long‑term transformation and making decisive structural decisions. Required Skills: - Proven CTO experience in a scaled, regulated financial services environment. - Leadership of large engineering teams (≥300 FTE) and experience delivering core platform modernization. - Executive‑level stakeholder management and board‑level communication. - Deep understanding of UK financial services risk, governance, and regulatory frameworks. - Expertise in stabilizing legacy tech, implementing DevOps, and driving cultural change. - Strong emotional intelligence, tactical and strategic thinking, and ability to diagnose dysfunction and implement pragmatic solutions. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. - Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, ITIL, PMP) preferred to demonstrate governance and project management proficiency.
