Job Description
Job Title: Co‑op Engineering Student – Electrical Role Summary: Support the electrical engineering team on water/wastewater, pumping station, and building services projects, gaining practical experience in design, drafting, calculations, and field inspections. Expectations: • Enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology co‑op program (Canadian post‑secondary) • At least second‑year standing or equivalent academic progress • Strong academic record and interest in infrastructure or building systems • Willingness to learn and contribute proactively Key Responsibilities: • Draft electrical design drawings, schematics, and layouts using AutoCAD/Revit • Create single‑line diagrams, control schematics, and lighting/plug‑load layouts for municipal and industrial projects • Compile electrical specifications, equipment schedules, and material lists under a licensed engineer’s supervision • Perform load estimation, voltage‑drop, and short‑circuit calculations using standard engineering methods • Participate in site visits and field inspections to collect data, verify existing conditions, and support as‑built documentation • Coordinate with mechanical, civil, and instrumentation disciplines to ensure integrated designs • Prepare and organize project documentation (drawing sets, mark‑ups, design notes) • Review drawings and calculations for quality control, consistency, and compliance with applicable codes and standards Required Skills: • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit • Strong knowledge of electrical fundamentals (power distribution, motor controls, lighting, grounding) • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) proficiency • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Team‑oriented, detail‑focused, and proactive learning mindset Required Education & Certifications: • Current enrollment in an accredited Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology co‑op program (Canadian post‑secondary) • Completion of at least second year of study preferred • No additional certifications required, but familiarity with industry codes and standards is advantageous.
