Staff Engineer
**Role Summary**
Senior technical leader responsible for designing, delivering, and owning large, business‑critical, cloud‑native systems in healthcare, fintech, and insurance. Sets technical direction, drives best practices, and collaborates closely with product, client, and engineering teams to build scalable, reliable, production‑grade solutions.
**Expectations**
- Own architecture and end‑to‑end system ownership.
- Lead and influence across multiple teams on design, standards, and technical debt reduction.
- Balance speed, cost, reliability, and long‑term maintainability in decision‑making.
- Interface directly with clients to refine requirements and propose optimal solutions.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Own and evolve the architecture of large, business‑critical systems with focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Lead technical design of complex, ambiguous projects; define boundaries, trade‑offs, and implementation plans.
- Set and uphold technical standards that influence multiple teams.
- Detect, surface, and mitigate risks; debug cross‑cutting issues across services, infrastructure, and data layers.
- Proactively reduce technical debt and simplify systems.
- Design, deploy, and operate cloud‑native architectures on GCP and AWS using IaC (Terraform).
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for reliable, repeatable deployments.
- Ensure observability, operability, and resiliency of production systems.
- Lead data‑intensive application design across ingestion, processing, storage, and serving.
- Translate business goals into durable system designs, service boundaries, and API contracts.
- Conduct architecture reviews, create RFCs, runbooks, and maintain high code‑quality standards.
- Mentor engineers, conduct thoughtful code reviews, and champion engineering craftsmanship.
**Required Skills**
- Deep backend development expertise (languages such as Go, Java, or Python).
- Strong experience with cloud platforms: GCP and AWS.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- CI/CD pipeline design and implementation (GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
- Architecture design for scalable, fault‑tolerant, and maintainable systems.
- Data‑intensive system design knowledge: batch/streaming, OLTP/OLAP, caching.
- Hands‑on debugging of complex, distributed environments.
- Excellent communication: technical documentation, diagrams, and client interaction.
- Strong problem‑solving, ambiguity tolerance, and judgment.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Optional: Cloud certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Architect) strengthen candidacy.
