Software Engineer – Data Infrastructure (New Grad 2025‑2026)
**Role Summary**
New graduates will join a small, full‑stack data infrastructure team building and maintaining Quora’s core data systems. The role focuses on scalable lake and pipeline development, query engine enhancements, cost optimization, and reliability incidents. It includes mentorship and on‑call duties while working remotely.
**Expectations**
- Graduating in 2025 or 2026 with or pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Availability for meetings and spontaneous communication during Quora’s coordination hours (Mon‑Fri, 9 AM‑3 PM PST).
- Demonstrated curiosity for large‑scale infrastructure, scalability challenges, and capacity to learn new technologies quickly.
- Willingness to own projects, propose solutions, and participate in on‑call rotation.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable data architectures for data lake, pipelines, and query engines (Kafka, Iceberg, Trino, Spark, Airflow).
- Collaborate on team planning, prioritize initiatives, and suggest new projects to improve system effectiveness.
- Analyze and reduce cost of data storage and processing while maintaining performance.
- Respond to and resolve real‑time reliability incidents as part of the on‑call rotation.
- Enhance and maintain developer tools and dashboards that serve data scientists, engineers, and business partners.
**Required Skills**
- Practical Python programming and SQL query writing.
- Familiarity with distributed data processing concepts (batch, stream, fault tolerance).
- Understanding of DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, alerting).
- Strong problem‑solving, debugging, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑moving, remote-first environment.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field; graduation year 2025 or 2026.
