Job Title: Unreal Engine Technical Artist / Technical Director
Role Summary:
Mid‑level Unreal Engine Technical Director/Artist responsible for integrating and optimizing assets, shaders, and visual effects within UE5 for a boutique animation studio. Works closely with animation, VFX, and production teams to ensure technical excellence and visual consistency across cinematic content.
Expectations:
- 4‑week contract with possible extension to 8 weeks.
- In‑studio, on‑site work only; no remote/hybrid.
- Submit a portfolio/reel with application; candidates without a link are excluded.
- Report progress to Producer and senior team, meet strict deadlines, and respond promptly to creative feedback.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and optimize asset pipelines, including importing and integrating assets into Unreal Engine.
- Create, manage, and troubleshoot shaders, materials, and visual effects.
- Identify and resolve performance issues related to lighting, geometry, and materials.
- Automate repetitive art tasks to improve studio productivity.
- Ensure visual consistency across environments, props, and characters.
- Collaborate on lighting, rendering, and optimisation strategies.
- Document workflows and technical standards for the art team.
- Stay updated on industry trends and apply new techniques to projects.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as Unreal Engine Technical Artist/Director.
- Proficient with Unreal Editor, UE5, C++ (API), and Python.
- Experience with Perforce version control.
- Knowledge of Metahuman, character animation pipelines, and mocap workflows.
- Strong background in animation, VFX, or game industry pipelines.
- High‑resolution rendering pipeline experience.
- Proficient with at least one major DCC package (Maya, 3DS Max, Houdini, Blender).
- Adobe Creative Cloud proficiency.
- Fluent in English, strong creative eye, and excellent communication.
Desired Skills (not mandatory):
- UE5 content shipping/exploration.
- Advanced Maya workflow, rigging, and animation knowledge.
- Cinematic production pipeline experience.
- Adobe Substance, photogrammetry, and motion capture experience.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Animation, Digital Arts, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).
