Job Description: **Job Title** Marine Engineer **Role Summary** Part‑time marine engineer responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of engines, generators, hydraulics, fuel systems, electrics, and plumbing on a fleet of three sailing vessels. Works flexibly, focusing on the November‑March refit period but maintaining year‑round readiness. Trains volunteer crew, records all servicing, and ensures compliance with marine safety standards. **Expectations** - Part‑time, flexible schedule aligned to sailing season. - Majority of hours during the fleet’s annual refit (Nov‑Mar). - Independent work ethic with proactive problem‑solving. - Ability to plan and execute maintenance without disrupting sailing programmes. - Maintain detailed work logs and safety‑compliant records. **Key Responsibilities** - Plan and conduct routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs of diesel engines, generators, hydraulics, fuel, electrics, and plumbing. - Diagnose and fix faults during sail season to minimise downtime. - Keep accurate service records and ensure compliance with marine engineering standards and safety regulations. - Train and supervise volunteer crew on daily checks and safe operation of engineering systems. - Coordinate maintenance schedules with management and skippers to align with sailing programmes. **Required Skills** - Strong technical knowledge of diesel marine engines and onboard systems. - Hands‑on repair and diagnostic skills. - Excellent organisational, record‑keeping, and time‑management abilities. - Ability to work independently and adapt to a flexible schedule. - Experience training non‑technical personnel in marine safety procedures. - Bonus: Experience with sailing vessels or sail‑training operations. **Required Education & Certifications** - Marine engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience. - Right to live and work in the UK. - Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain). ---
