**Job Title:** Data Scientist – Intern (Calgary) **Role Summary:** Join the Upstream Digital Accelerator team to apply machine learning, optimization, and advanced analytics to solve complex oil‑and‑gas operational challenges. Work in multidisciplinary “fusion” teams, turning business problems into deployable data‑science solutions and supporting their lifecycle from prototype to production. **Expectations:** - Deliver high‑impact analytical solutions that generate measurable operational value. - Communicate findings clearly to business stakeholders and technical teams. - Maintain rigor in model development, testing, and monitoring. - Stay current with data‑science advancements and contribute to community knowledge sharing. **Key Responsibilities:** - Collaborate with engineers, opportunity managers, and domain experts to define business problems and data‑science approaches. - Perform data wrangling, ETL pipeline creation, exploratory analysis, and proof‑of‑concept modeling. - Develop, test, and scale machine‑learning models for deployment in production environments. - Produce visualizations and dashboards to convey key metrics and insights. - Monitor model performance post‑deployment, conduct retraining, and support operational use. - Participate in peer reviews and help mature the MLOps framework. - Work with platform and data‑infrastructure teams to ensure robust data pipelines and architecture alignment. - Share results through internal presentations, publications, conferences, or seminars. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency in Python; familiarity with PySpark and Databricks is a plus. - Experience with supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning, and mathematical optimization techniques. - Strong analytical mindset for solving academic or business problems using advanced analytics. - Ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences. - Effective communication and visualization skills (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib). **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline. - No specific certifications required; demonstrated experience in data‑science projects is essential.
